Living Earth - Weather & Clock App Reviews

Cool, thats all.

Its cool, but thats it. The weather is useful as well but nothing too extraordinary. The UI is overly simplistic and could use some improvements. The ability to designate this wallpaper to only one desktop open as opposed to all of them would be appreciated as well. Over all its cool, but not worth the $7 in my opinion. Unless you want to show off your new retnia display!

Pretty nice globe/weather app

I like the simplicity and dicipline of this app… it looks and works great, as advertised. Some of the behaviour is a little funky UI-wise (the details for cities)... and clicking a + icon to remove cities is not exactly intuitive…. Id change that icon to just the word "edit" or a little city icon, guys. Minor quibble. Id really like to see the ability to hold CMD and move the menubar icons position.

Best way to get your weather

the realtime cloud cover is great

Real issues with getting it to quit when you want to actually use your computer!

Initially I was impressed, until it wouldnt let me actually get to my desktop without a lot of guesswork. Now I cant figure out how to turn it off.

Awesome

Super clean good weather info, supports retina display and works well.

An excellent app.

A well-made, reliable and useful app. Its even good to look at. Well worth the price.

Love the view... but wheres the ice?

I enjoy the brilliant "live" view of the Earth. Seeing darkness advance across the earth has helped my kids to understand why Grandma is in a different time zone. However, we live in the Canadian Arctic and I am disappointed by the omission of sea ice. This undermines the realism (and usefulness) for those of us living in the north, and it is a huge missed opportunity to educate app users from the rest of the globe about the dramatic changes in sea ice that are happening in the Arctic. Please add sea ice and this would be a five star app!

Really great.

Living Earth has replaced my iOS weather app by long strides. This just takes the cake. The desktop screensaver adjustments are a unique touch but probably my main feature would be in the status bar. Easy weather and temperature display rather than having to go into the dashboard. It can also be added that this has much more features than the dashboard equivalent weather widget. I definitely think its worth it. Hopefully all those other extra features that the iOS version has will eventually be implemented to the OS X version and its worth the wait.

Great Menubar App

Love it as a Geography teacher and one who is curious about the world around us. All my favourite places at my fingertips!

Nice App

I like this app on my desktop the view of the earth in real time is amazing. I find the screen saver uses too much ressorces on my MacBook Air. Just one personal want in this app that I would like is a 24 hour clock option.

Great App but...

Beautifully designed but it doesnt integrate well with my screen saver settings (my initial screen saver still displays). I am not sure if the app is causing it but ever since I installed it my computer either freezes or wants to reboot. It may not be this app in particular but ever since I uninstalled it, I have been problem free.

Awesome App

This app is awesome! The graphics and accuracy of the weather is amazing. My kids really enjoy watching where day turns to night. Highly recommend this app.

Great App!

Been using the iPad and IPhone version from day one seen it on here got it right away! Great weather app.

No Password Protection

I would think password protection to turn the screen saver OFF would be useful. You can not utilize the MAC screensaver in conjunction with this one becasue if you do it will override the Living Earth screen saver rendering it a $7 waste of money.

Great App Overall

Great app with elegant design and superb usability. Cons: it does use too much RAM, plus it offers neither Humidex nor Windchill values ("feels like" temperature), which are rather important in cities like Toronto or Chicago. The screensaver is way too heavy, too. But overall, for quick weather reference, this is the best app I have ever installed on OS X.

Nice App for weather

it is a very nice app for weather but it use way too much ram and cpu of the computer. Sometimes i have trouble playing 3d games with this app on.

Great weather and universal time app

I would have given this app 5 stars except it uses a lot of RAM. In my case, I have 16 gigs on my iMac and run it all the time. However, I have 8 gigs on my MacBook Air and I only run it there when I need to. With this out of the way though I can this is definitely good. On the Mac it’s a menubar app so it is available anywhere as a drop down and I just hit opt-W and there it is. But what’s there is tremendous. Weather conditions from six cities that I want to see the weather for. More importantly for me it tells me the time in all these cities. Combined and this is a dynamite duo of information. I love. I rely on this more as a result than I would most weather apps. I often need to know the time in another locale and this is perfect as I always tend to glance at the weather their getting. Or if I have to travel, I can see what the weather is looking like for the destination I’m going to. My preferred app for weather alone is Clear Day as it’s very soothing. I use the two in combination. Clear Day always starts and ends my day due to it’s dramatic but soothing videos. Living Earth is part of what I use to run my day. I don’t throw up a coin and say which one should I get. I have them both. I’d say Living Earth and Clear Day are the two best weather apps for the Mac and iPad. For the iPhone my preference (yes another) is Yahoo! Weather.

Nope

Not worth the money, lot of other weather apps out there…..Sorry Would not recomend to purchase….and as other have said uses way too much ram, and slows everything down…..So pretty much dont use it….$7 plus down the drain, live & learn the hard way…OR JUST DONT PURCHASE THIS APP!!!!

Like it!

Its basic forcast, but its right at your fingertips when you need it. Developer is very responsive. Sometimes the grey text is a bit hard to read. Otherwise a great purchase.

No “Feels Like” temperature...

iOS app has the Feels Like temperature and the desktop version NEEDS it too. Tiny graphs (wind, humidity, etc..) are harder to read than tables would be. As well, one needs to click through a few screens to get to important info. A nice looking app but I’ve uninstalled it in favour of my old dashboard widgets purely for the Feels Like temperature.
